What a humanoid actually needs from a machine shop

A humanoid is a stack of custom mechanical parts around bought-in motors, reducers, sensors, and batteries. The pieces that change every sprint — and that a factory like ours makes — are structural links, joint and actuator housings, covers, brackets, and the jigs that let you assemble them repeatably. That mix is already how we support robotics and automation: CNC for load paths, additive for fast geometry, sheet metal for skins and chassis, molding or vacuum casting when a cover repeats, and fixtures so your line is not waiting on a one-off vise setup.

Teams usually start with 3D-printed or quickly machined fit-check parts, then move the same geometry onto Haas 3 / 4 / 5-axis mills once stiffness, heat, and thread life matter. Covers often stay additive or vacuum-cast through a pilot, then go to aluminum tooling if volume justifies it. We keep that path in one plant so you are not re-quoting a new vendor at each stage.

We will not invent named customers or claim we ship a finished walking robot. If a program is under NDA, we sign first and then talk about CAD. Publicly we can only describe the processes and part families we already run.

Limb links and frames

Pocketed aluminum 6061 / 7075 or steel links between joints. 5-axis when you need undercuts and fewer setups. Weight comes out of pockets and material choice, not from skipping inspection.

Actuator and gearbox housings

CNC housings for motors, harmonic / planetary reducers, and bearings. Bore alignment and flatness go on the 2D drawing; CMM or 3D-scan reports available when you need evidence.

Joint blocks and motor mounts

Stiff mounts in aluminum or steel. Threads, helical inserts, and dowel patterns for serviceable joints. Delrin or Nylon where you need low friction or electrical isolation.

Covers, skins, and hands

SLA for visual covers, SLS / MJF Nylon for functional skins, sheet metal for torso or battery boxes, vacuum cast or injection molded covers for pilots. Gripper fingers in metal or printed TPU/Nylon.

Sensor, camera, and cable hardware

LiDAR / camera brackets, cable glands, strain-relief clips, and small turned standoffs. Alignment features belong on the drawing so the head and wrists repeat.

Assembly jigs and EOAT

Fixtures, nests, and end-of-arm tooling for your assembly or test cell — the same work we already do for automation lines. POM contact faces when cosmetic covers must not scratch.

Which process for which humanoid part

  • CNC machining: structural links, motor mounts, gearbox housings, joint blocks — anything that must hold bearing preload or a hard tolerance.
  • 3D printing (SLA / SLS / MJF / DMLS): fit-check covers, lattice weight savers, complex internal channels, first-article hands and cable routing.
  • Sheet metal: battery trays, torso boxes, electronics chassis, simple covers with PEM hardware.
  • Vacuum casting / injection molding: repeated cosmetic covers once the surface is frozen; aluminum tooling for low-volume, steel when quantity justifies it.
  • Finishing: anodize, powder, paint, blast, polish, insert installation, form-fit assembly.

How to RFQ a humanoid part

Email or WhatsApp CAD (STEP / STL / IGES). Put critical fits, bearing bores, and cosmetic faces on a 2D PDF. Tell us quantity and whether this is a fit check, a 10–50 piece pilot, or a repeating production part. Most RFQs get a reply within 24 business hours. Many CNC and 3D-print prototypes ship in 3–7 days; molded covers need tooling time on top.

Can you make parts for humanoid robots?

Yes. We manufacture custom parts for robotics and automation, including hardware used on humanoid programs: joints, actuator housings, structural links, covers, and assembly jigs. We are not a robot OEM and we do not sell a branded humanoid.

CNC or 3D printing for a humanoid joint?

Load-bearing joints, motor mounts, and gearbox housings are usually CNC aluminum or steel. Covers, first-article hands, and complex internal geometry are often SLS / MJF Nylon or SLA for visuals. Many programs print the first set, then machine the same interfaces once the design freezes.

What materials do you run for humanoid hardware?

Metals: aluminum 6061 / 7075, stainless, alloy steel, titanium on request. Plastics: ABS, PC, Nylon, POM (Delrin), PEEK, TPU, and SLS/MJF nylons. Sheet metal in steel, stainless, and aluminum. We will not pick a material that fights the process — that is what the DFM pass is for.

MOQ, size, and inspection?

CNC and 3D printing: 1 piece. Typical max mill envelope 1200 × 800 × 600 mm; larger parts can be split and assembled. Tolerances follow ISO 2768 medium (plastics) and fine (metals) unless the drawing says otherwise. CMM and 3D-scan reports on request.

Will you sign an NDA and work from SolidWorks / Fusion files?

Yes to NDA before sensitive CAD. STEP is preferred for quoting; we can also work from SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor, and similar native files. Put critical dimensions on a 2D PDF.

Do you publish customer names or walking-robot demos?

No fake testimonials and no named humanoid platform unless you ask us to NDA a real project and approve the mention. The factory work is CNC, print, metal, and mold — not a showroom robot.
